The IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme (IEAGHG) was formed in 1991. Currently the Programme is supported by its 37 members, comprising of 18 Contracting Parties and 19 multinational Sponsors. Funding for the Programme is provided by the members.

IEA Technology Collaboration Programmes

We are proud to be one of the IEA’s Technology Collaboration Programmes (TCPs). The aim of the TCPs is to help to accelerate energy technology innovation by ensuring that stakeholders from both the public and private sector share knowledge, work collaboratively and, where appropriate, pool resources to deliver integrated and cost effective solutions. More information on the IEA and its TCPs can be found here: https://www.iea.org/tcp/.

The Technology Collaboration Programme on Greenhouse Gas R&D (GHG TCP), also known as IEAGHG, constitutes an autonomous and independent framework within the International Energy Agency (IEA) network. Views, findings and publications of the GHG TCP do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the IEA Secretariat or its individual member countries. The GHG TCP’s task is to assess the role that technologies can play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from both the power system and from industrial processes.

We do this by employing the best academic institutions and technical consultancies from around the world to undertake detailed techno-economic assessments of different technology options and how these can cost effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The primary technologies of focus are for carbon dioxide capture, utilisation and storage (CCS/CCUS). IEAGHG publishes the results of its work on the IEAGHG website to ensure that the knowledge generated is freely available and gets disseminated globally and used by all the relevant stakeholders in keeping with the IEA TCP goals. IEAGHG works internationally and collaboratively to facilitate the development and deployment of CCS/CCUS technologies.

Operating Agent

The IEAGHG’s Operating Agent is IEA Environmental Projects Ltd. The Agent manages the common funds provided by the members and is also responsible for delivering the work programme required. A project team at IEAGHG manages the technical studies, dissemination activities and other activities in accordance with members’ requirements.
