Guide to Membership

A guide to becoming a member of IEAGHG, including membership requirements, benefits, details of current members and who to contact for further information.

Who can join?

Membership of the IEAGHG Programme is open to all IEA member countries as well as other developed and developing countries that have an interest in implementing technological options for greenhouse gas mitigation and international companies which are interested in developing or deploying greenhouse gas mitigation options in their industrial sectors.

Membership benefits

All members contribute to a common research fund which is managed by IEAGHG on behalf of its members. The governing body of the Programme is the Executive Committee which meets twice yearly to review the current activities and agree future work commitments. Each member is represented on the Executive Committee and both sponsors and contracting parties have a single vote at Executive Committee meetings. This ensures that all participants have an equal influence over the work programme and policies.

Participants in the forum provided by IEAGHG contribute to the development of its work programme. This results in the inclusion of perspectives from an international range of national and industrial organisations. This, in turn, leads to realistic characterisation of CO2 mitigation options.

All IEAGHG members have access to unbiased information obtained from international experts, reported in consistent technical evaluations.

An analysis of member profiles illustrates the range of interests that are managed in a cooperative style in the IEAGHG forum:

  • Kyoto Protocol signatories (19)
  • Non-Kyoto signatories (1)
  • Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries (17)
  • Developing countries (2)
  • International organisations with country membership (2)
  • Governments (19)
  • International companies: oil and gas (11)
  • International companies and organisations: power industry (6)
  • International companies: manufacturers/ supplying energy industries (4)

Contributions by contracting parties to IEAGHG are made annually and are based on a four-step scale related to emissions of CO2. There is a set subscription rate for new sponsors.
