1. Background:

Due to the overwhelming success of the three previous Oxyfuel Combustion Network workshops held in Germany, USA and Japan, we have responded to the growing interest in oxyfuel technologies for power plant with CO2 capture by developing the workshops into a full Conference.

The 1st IEAGHG International Oxyfuel Combustion Research Network Workshop, held in Cottbus, Germany 2005 sarted the discussion with only two major large scale oxyfuel combustion projects announced namely Vattenfall's 30MWth pilot plant and CS Energy's Callide 30MWe power plant retrofit project. By the 3rd meeting this had grown to 12 major large scale burner testing, pilot plants and demonstration projects worldwide (see table below for list of projects).

2008 sees a major milestone in the development of oxyfuel combustion technologies achieved. In November 2008 Vattenfall and Alstom have successfully completed the commissioning the world's first full chain Oxyfuel pilot plant facility with CO2 capture. To reconginse this achievement and mark the 1st anniversary of the pilot plant we will be holding the 1st IEAGHG International Oxyfuel Combustion Conference in Cottbus, Germany. This event  provided a forum to continue to discuss the remaining issues relevant to the development of oxyfuel combustion technologies and share what we have learnt from the experience of operating the 1st oxyfuel combustion boiler.

2. Conference objectives:

  1. To provide a forum for engineers, scientists, power plant operators , equipment manufacturers and service providers to discuss the various issues relevant to oxyfuel combustion technologies.
  2. To share experiences and discuss information obtained from various large scale oxyfuel combustion technologies.
  3. To provide opportunities for young researchers to present their work and meet with industry experts.
